As history repeats itself, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) star, Kasey Kahne, will return to the driver’s seat of the iconic black, white and red No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet in 2012. The veteran driver began his NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) career wheeling the car for three years (2003-2005) and to two victories, before stepping out of the ride as progressed to the Sprint Cup Series ranks. In 2010, Kahne decided to return to the NNS on a limited basis and found himself back at the helm of the No. 38 machine, sporting the banner of his longtime sponsor, Great Clips, Inc. During both the 2010 and 2011 NNS seasons, Kahne piloted the car for eight races, racking up four top-five and six top-10 finishes. This season, Kahne will step up to the plate to run 15 races in the Great Clips machine, sharing the ride with up-and-coming driver and Rookie of the Year contender, Brad Sweet.
Before becoming one of NASCAR’s most popular young guns the Wash.-native cut his racing chops in the country’s open-wheel circuits. At 14-years-old he began racing Micro-Midget cars near his Pacific Northwest hometown. By 18, he was a solid competitor in the World of Outlaws Series and, by 21, he had a USAC Midget Series Championship under his belt. With only limited stock car experience, Kahne made his NSCS debut in 2004. Capturing the Rookie of the Year honors, he recorded 13 top-five finishes and closed out the season 13th in the championship driver’s points standings.
In 2005, he captured his first NSCS win and, in 2006, he won a series-high six races and racked up six pole positions. Kahne continues with his NSCS endeavors where he boasts 12 career wins, 57 top-five and 102 top-10 finishes with 22 pole awards to his credit. In late 2010 it was announced he would move to powerhouse team Hendrick Motorsports in 2012, as well as return to Turner Motorsports driving a limited schedule in the No. 38 Impala. In 176 starts in 10 years of NNS racing, he is credited with seven wins, 33 top-five and 63 top-10 finishes with eight pole awards.
When he isn’t driving, Kahne enjoys switching roles to team owner. In 2005 he formed Kasey Kahne Racing (KKR), an open-wheel racing team that fields entries in both the World of Outlaws Series and the USAC Midget Series. He even employs Turner Motorsports teammate and fellow Great Clips Racing family member, Brad Sweet!
